I recently made the big decision of switching to natural, chemical-free beauty products. There’s a number of reasons why I’ve decided to make the switch and go down the clean beauty route. Read on to find out…
Our ѕkіn is the largest organ іn our bоdу. It absorbs around 60% of everything we put on it and carries it directly into the bloodstream. So it seems crazy to cover our skin in harmful chemicals, right? I’ve recently been teaching myself about the chemicals used in the beauty industry and I was shocked at my findings. Most of the skincare, hair care, makeup and perfume we use on a day-to-day basis contain ingredients that are harmful to our health. Parabens, sulphates, PEGs, phthalates to name just a few.
What’s wrong with these chemicals? They’ve been linked to reproductive and organ system toxicity, hormone imbalances and even cancer as well as many other health issues. Are your favourite beauty products worth the risk? For me, they’re not.
So, the main reason I’m switching to natural products is because I only want to put good things into my body. After all, our body is a temple and we should treat it with care.
Like many people, I try my best to eat healthily the majority of the time. Most of us know that it’s important to fill our bodies with nourishing, natural food and understand the phrase “you are what you eat.” But as I mentioned before, like food, our beauty products get absorbed into the bloodstream. So for me, a more natural approach to beauty feels like the next step to take for a healthy lifestyle.
As I’ve spoken about before on this blog, my skin can get quite sensitive and react badly to some products. So, going natural is also a way to help keep my skin at bay. Of course, I’m aware that not all of the ingredients in natural products will work for my skin. However, in the past, I’ve found that my skin tends to like natural the best as they tend to be more gentle on the skin. For that reason, I believe that switching to an all-natural beauty routine will improve my skin.
No Need to Compromise
Once upon a time, there weren’t many natural brands available and they could only be found in health food shops. However, these days they’re way easier to get hold of and there are so many amazing, high-quality, natural products to choose from. So, you don’t have to compromise health in the name of beauty! I’m excited to discover lots of new brands that use skin friendly ingredients in their products.
How Will I Make The Switch?
From now on, I’m only going to buy natural, safe, non-toxic beauty products and I aim to gradually replace my collection bit-by-bit. I think starting slowly is the best way to make the switch, unless you have a ton of money to drop. I also plan on doing some more DIY beauty (like this 100% natural lipbalm that I really enjoyed making) and I will be documenting everything on my blog.
Thanks for reading… I hope you’ll continue to follow me on this journey! I’d love to know your thoughts.
